A Warming Mattress and Cooling Mattress
The difference between the Bedjet and the ChiliPad
If you have researched the ChiliPad at all, you probably know that it is really the best solution for cooling off your bed so you can get a decent night’s sleep.
The Bedjet is another nice option, but just due to the technology that the ChiliPad uses, it is the superior cooling mattress system and great if you live in a climate with long, hot summers, such as Arizona or Texas. The Bedjet is designed to circulate air around you as you sleep, but it doesn’t contain any way to actually cool the air.
The ChiliPad on the other hand, does just that, and does it very well. So now that we have established how well it cools in the summer months, lets take a look at how it can keep your bed warm in the winter.
So why is ChiliPad so great?
One of the great things about the ChiliPad is the range of temperatures to which it will heat or cool. You can go as low as 55 degrees Fahrenheit or as high as 110 degrees.
Nobody probably sleeps at either, but it’s the point of having the ability to vary the temperature by that much that is impressive.
It does take a little bit of time to get to either the lower temperature settings or the higher ones, and depending upon where you have the Cube unit positioned, you will want to allow 20-30 minutes to get your ChiliPad either very cool or very warm.
Impressive, but what else is there?
What is really impressive about the ChiliPad is this: after warming it to the highest temperatures just to see what it would feel like (110 degrees, or thereabouts) I decided to try the unit down into the 80’s instead.
I figured that the Cube would simply stop heating the water at that point, allowing the temperature to drop. However, the ChiliPad technology doesn’t work that way. When I changed the temperature from over 100 down to 85, the unit actually changed and started working to cool the water to arrive at the new temperature much more quickly. That is pretty impressive.
I thought it was only a cooling mattress pad.
After finding out how well the ChiliPad can both heat up and cool down, you can probably see what may be the greatest feature of this unit, and that is the ability to do both at the same time. Who among us sleeps with a partner who wants at a different temperature than we sleep?
“If you are NOT one of those people, I envy you, because my wife ALWAYS wants to sleep in a warmer environment than I do.”
100% of the time she will be too cold when I am too hot. It’s not just in the bedroom either, if you check the vents in my truck, you will find the vents on the passenger side where my wife sits, closed, whereas mine are wide open so I can have the AC blowing on me. But I digress.
For larger beds like the Queen, King, California King etc, the ChiliPad has dual zone temperature control. This may be the coolest (sic) feature ever invented and it allows you to cool down one side, while warming up the other so that you and your partner can both have the perfect temperature for sleeping based on your personal preferences. I can’t stress enough how ideal this feature is and it makes the price you pay for the ChiliPad worth it, no doubt about it.
Does it really work?
After sleeping on the ChiliPad for a few weeks, I can tell you it does everything that it claims and then some. It is easy to use and the wireless remote control makes it great to change up settings on the fly without having to get out of bed and adjust the Cube unit itself.
I was worried at first about how the silicon micro-tubes would feel while trying to fall asleep on them, but you hardly notice they are there.
I am pretty picky about my sleep environment, probably do to years of having issues with sleeping, and I did not have a hard time getting used to the micro-tubes at all.
The truth is, the pad and the tubes are so thin that you really don’t notice much difference at all between having the mattress topper on and your bed normally, without it. The difference you notice is where it should be; the temperature.
Hot Side Hot, Cool Side Cool!
Cleaning and maintaining the unit is also a snap. You need to flush the unit out about every three months and you simply add a capful of hydrogen peroxide when you refill it with water.
Throw the mattress topper itself into the washing machine on a gentle setting (dry on the same using and air-only setting) and that’s really all there is too it. No need to go to any complicated procedures, its not much different that washing your bedding that you normally do anyway.
The fact that they aren’t cheap may dissuade some potential buyers, but all I can say is that you get what you pay for.
This is a great unit that offers a ton of benefits, all designed to help get you the best possible nights sleep. If that isn’t enough, they offer you a 90-day trial period to try it out. If it doesn’t improve your sleep, you can return it for a full refund, no questions asked.
That is a pretty stellar guarantee from a company that makes a pretty darn stellar product.
